Sarah Dawson Powell

writer of drama, trauma, & bad decisions

About Sarah:

Sarah Dawson Powell is a multi-genre author who was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago and currently lives in Central Illinois with her kidlings and too many cats. Her hobbies include doing laundry, washing dishes, petting cats, writing, reading, and talking to kids who have selective hearing. In her spare time, she enjoys working sixty hours a week, sleeping, and drinking lots of coffee. When she grows up, she wants to change the world.

Sarah has a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Illinois and has worked in social services since graduating. Her life hasn't always been peachy, but she's made the best of every situation. She hopes her readers take something away from her stories and loves to interact with them on social media.

Fun Facts:

  • I have an entire tote in my basement full of dead... manuscript drafts (what did you think I was going to say?) from back when I used to print pages at a time of my drafts to let my coworkers read them. I can't bear to part with them.
  • I had a child my senior year of high school. It didn't slow me down. I graduated with my class and went on to college, earning a bachelor's degree. When someone tells me I can't achieve something, I'm going to work infinitely harder to reach that goal because they're not the boss of me. That being said, if everyone could tell me I'll never be a NYT bestseller, that would be great motivation.
  • I enjoy long walks from my office to the kitchen where my Keurig is. Coffee on the rocks is my love language.
  • Sometimes, when my cats aren't available, I talk to myself instead. The advice is questionable either way.
  • I organize my Skittles by color before eating them. And before anyone tries to say otherwise, the correct eating order is orange, green, yellow, red, and finally purple.
